Finding experienced speakers who are willing to discuss a difficult topic such as sexual abuse, and are able to speak on it effectively, can be a challenge.
In my role as a speaker, I weave elements from my own history together with latest research and statistics, and deliver a moving presentation that can be a key portion of a truly powerful event.
I have been speaking publically about sexual abuse, alcoholism, and other causes since 2004.
In March of 2004, I stopped drinking, and started my healing journey. By taking an active role is my own recovery, I was encourage to speak about painful truths in front of groups of alcoholics.
In the spring of 2006, I joined a support group for survivors of sexual abuse. In that organization, I quickly got involved, became their website administrator. In fall of 2006, I started leading workshops at their retreats.
In summer of 2007, I co-founded Vital Cycles, a non-profit support organization for survivors of any trauma. With Vital Cycles, I serve as a member of the Board of Trustees, as the Website Administrator, and am often called upon to lead portions of our retreats, as well as workshops in our region.
In 2008, I launched the Innocence Declared website as a way to continue to shed my own shame and reach out to other survivors.
In 2009, I completely redesigned the Innocence Declared site to support a new purpose: raising the public awareness of sexual abuse through media interviews, and speaking engagements.
Also in 2009, I also became involved with three more organizations that will help continue to broaden my speaking experience, while raising the awareness of sexual abuse.
I am looking forward to speaking at your event.
